A 2-acre brush fire was contained this evening at Pirate’s Cove near Avila Beach, according to the County/Cal Fire Department. The fire started at 9:35 p.m. and was extinguished by firefighters by 10:10 p.m., said CDF dispatcher Corrin Clark. The access to the blaze was difficult and involved reaching the flames that burned the side of a hill. Clark also said the department received several calls regarding illegal fireworks tonight, but not as many as in years past. — Nick Wilson
